The 10th Annual International PICARD Сonference

The 10th annual international PICARD conference 2015 opened in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan opened on September 08 2015. Organizers made a great impression on the delegates with a rich cultural program and a welcoming oriental hospitality.

Before the conference, participants took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb of Heydar Aliyev, the famous Azerbaijani President, visited the Alley of Martyrs, and the museum on the National Flag Square.

The main purpose of the Conference is to promote international cooperation in the field of customs.

On the first day of the conference, participants discussed current issues of trade development. The big impression on the audience made Eric Maskin, Nobel Prize winner and Harvard University professor with the report on the problem of the existing inequalities between developed and developing countries, to overcome which the improvement of the existing trade links needs to be made.

No less important was the report of Mick Moore, Director General of the International Centre for Trade and Development. Using the original examples, Moore raised the important issue of the relationship between customs and tax services.

During the first day of the Conference, discussions broke out on the fight against smuggling, as well as research on supply chains and international transactions.

Geography of reports was broad: researchers from Norway, France, UK, USA, Sri Lanka, and Cameroon shared their work.

The evening ended with a concert of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Society. We are confident that this is only the beginning of a long, colorful and interesting events in PICARD 2015.
