On November 18 the best students of St Petersburg ­– winners of the "Student of the Year" competition were awarded in the Big Concert Hall of the St Petersburg State University of Technology and Design (SPGUTD).

The solemn ceremony was opened by Georgy Poltavchenko, governor of St Petersburg, who congratulated the winners and wished them to keep achieving things. According to the head of the city, a knowledgeable young active person can achieve many things because knowledge is an investment in the future.

The winners were determined in 12 nominations: best in scientific and technical creativity, student sports, patriotic work, organization of the activities of student labor groups and others.

“All the participants are great guys, and look at how they work! We have volunteers, athletes and participants artistic groups,” said Lyudmila Vinogradova, Head of educational work SPGUTD, a member of the organizing committee of the competition. “Indeed we have gathered the most talented, active and intelligent students with their own opinions and lifestyle. “

Among the winners are students of the ITMO University. Winner of the Best Patriotic Work is Eugene Saganchi, student of the Humanities Faculty. Second place in the Best Organizer of Creativity and Entertainment Programs took Julia Mokretsova, student of the Institute of International Business and Law of the ITMO University. Maxim Ivanov, student of the Institute of Complex Military Education of the ITMO University, is the winner in the Best Manager of the Student Union in the Dormitories category.

“Of course, I was hoping for a victory,” admitted Maxim. “I and the guys have worked for a year and a half in the campus, trying to make facilities there more comfortable. We have done it on our own, sometimes with the help of the university administration. Therefore, this victory is not only mine, but of our entire team. “

The contest Student of the Year has been held in St Petersburg for seven years. This year the organizers have had 195 applications from 40 universities, but only 36 participants managed to come through in the finals. Rectors of the city’s leading universities and student creative teams congratulated the winners.

“I hope that today's victory will give confidence to the guys and will be an additional incentive to work further,” said Yuri Kolesnikov, Vice-rector for educational, organizational and administrative work of the ITMO University. “Congratulations to our winners! I wish them further success, they did great!”
