 |p=00,left| From 7 to 18 July 2014, WIPO Summer School - Russia was traditionally held in St Petersburg at the Institute of International Business and Law. This year, the school opened its doors for the sixth time. Summer School organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Intellectual Property (Moscow) and the Institute of International Business and Law of University of ITMO (St Petersburg).

55 students attended the school, including representatives from Russia, Belarus, and Lithuania. Students came from different Russian cities: St Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk, Belgorod, Perm, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, and Izhevsk. With every passing year, the interest in the Summer School clearly increases which confirms the urgent need for projects aimed at promoting intellectual property. 

Welcoming speeches at the opening of the School were given by several people: Saule Tlevlessova, Head of the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, the Department of transition and developed economies, WIPO; Ivan Blisnez, Doctor of Law, professor, State Councilor, and Rector of RGAIS; and Elena Bogdanova, Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor, director of the Institute of International Business and Law of University of ITMO. |p=05,right|

This year, the program of study included not only lectures, seminars, discussions, plenary sessions and workshops but also legislation analysis and legislation changes regulating relations intellectual property, and addressed topics related to intellectual property subjects dealt with different aspects of intellectual property: copyright and related rights, industrial property rights, trademarks and means of individualization, international system of intellectual property protection, and the procedure of making a patent search. Also, the curriculum included relevant for today the topic of domain names and intellectual property commercialization.

The course is carried out with the assistance of highly qualified specialists in the field of intellectual property. This year, among lecturers are: Ivan Blisnez, Irik Muhamedshin, Victoria Savina (PhD, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of Copyright, Related Rights and Private Law), Veronica Smirnova (PhD, Vice President for Research work of RGAIS), Lubov Tsitovich (PhD, Associate Professor) (RGAIS), and Sergey Zotin (consultant and expert on IP WIPO, Geneva).

|p=04,left|School offers its students knowledge in the subject of intellectual property, the specifics of the work on the procedures for registering a patent, how to protect copyright and related rights, the current state and development of the industry; and national and international experience in this sphere.

The school aims to explore issues in the field of intellectual property, obtaining necessary skills, share practical experience among the audience and setting strong and productive professional relationships.

As part of the course, students have a unique opportunity to get an answer and advice from professional educators and practitioners on the issues they face in their working day to day activities.

Upon completion of the course, students successfully defended their work and received certificates of completion of the WIPO Summer School 2014. And according to tradition, the ending of the course and graduation were celebrated with a boat trip along the rivers and canals of St Petersburg.
