KALEIDOSCOPE 2014 – the sixth Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was held in St Petersburg on June 3-5, 2014. Conference was organized by the IT Union and the Bonch-Bruevich St Petersburg State University of Telecommunications. The main aim of the KALEIDOSCOPE conference is to identify new developments in information and communication technologies (ICT); in particular, areas that need international standards to support the development of successful products and services. Also, on June 2, in anticipation of the conference, a joint workshop ITU-IEICE-IEEE on education in the field of standardization was held. The main aim of the workshop was to bring together representatives of the academic and research institutes, ITU academy members, representatives of organizations involved in the development of standards, international organizations, industry associations and governments to enhance cooperation in the development of initiatives aimed at increasing attention to the need to include the subject "standardization "in the curricula of different programs.

ITMO University has taken part in activities as a basic training ground for European Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). As part of the workshop, Elena Bogdanova, director of the Institute of International Business and Law of ITMO University, made ​​a report and presentation of educational initiatives at the University, the UNECE and the Russian Federation in the field of supranational educational standards.

Results of proposals at the University included a proposal to start negotiations to establish international organizations and introduction of mechanisms to create supranational educational standards in different areas.
